NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
In 2016, the Governing Body approved a resolution stating that beginning in 2017 and every year thereafter, if revenues received were higher than projected, City staff shall develop a plan to spend the unanticipated revenue to fund roadway repairs and replace equipment.

The 'Neighborhood Streets Improvement Project' will utilize these unanticipated revenues to crack seal and crack patch the neighborhood streets detailed below.  Roads will be added to the project annually, if the Governing Body approves funding or if additional resources become available.

Why wasn’t my road selected as part of the Neighborhood Road work that is taking place now?

Crack sealing and crack patching, currently being implemented, is a treatment that is considered preventative maintenance when it is applied to roads that are in relatively good condition.  This must be done in order to prevent the roads from falling into further disrepair.

If your road isn’t receiving repair now or isn’t on the list for this year, there are two possible reasons for this:

  1. The first reason is that your road wasn’t selected for this phase, but could be selected next time.  There are 450 centerline miles of roads within the City, which means resources have to spread around to ensure all residents receive maintenance.
  2. The other possibility is that the condition of your road is such where the work needed is more substantial than crack sealing and crack patching.  This more intense work would not be able to be completed by in-house City crews; therefore, it would need to go out to bid, and the cost would be higher than the work currently being completed.

Status Log:

  • December 2017:  The City is currently developing a list for next year's roads (FY 2018).  The roads selected will be based on road assessment/rating data, safety considerations, vehicle volume, other work taking place, and City Councilor input.  The City will gather input from the City Councilors in mid-February.  Once the roads are selected, this webpage will be updated.  Please remember, that roads that need more extensive work, such as reconstruction, will be addressed through other means (e.g. a Government Obligation Bond (GO Bond)).
  • October 2017: District 2 roadways complete.  Districts 1, 4, and 5 are ongoing.
  • May 2017: District 3 roadways complete.
