Mayor's Sunday is Funday

Preparations are underway for the 9th Annual Mayor’s Sunday is Funday.  The event will take place on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Rio Rancho High School field, 301 Loma Colorado Blvd.  Admission is free and parking at the high school will be $3.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘Bringing Our Community Together.’  At this family style picnic you’ll find musical entertainment, activities for kids, vendor booths, and inexpensive food items.

Those interested in being a booth vendor to market or sell family or youth-oriented products or to be a sponsor of the event should contact Dave Heil with the Rio Rancho Kiwanis Club at (505) 228-7189/ or Tim Sheahan with the Boys and Girls Clubs at (505) 881-0777 for registration and fee information. Additional Sunday is Funday information can be found at http://www.rioranchokiwanis.com.

Sunday is Funday is sponsored and coordinated by the Rio Rancho Kiwanis Club; City of Rio Rancho Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department; Rio Rancho Boys and Girls Club; and City of Vision Civitans. Sunday is Funday was created by Tony Popper, a former Rio Rancho City Councilor, Rio Rancho Kiwanis President, and community volunteer.

Proceeds, after paying event expenses, benefit youth programs in Rio Rancho such as scholarships for city parks and recreation programs, the Rio Rancho Boys and Girls Club, Sandoval County Juvenile Justice Program, and the Boy Scouts.
