Xeriscape

The City of Rio Rancho is a proud sponsor of the 2013 Xeriscape and Water Conservation Conference and Expo.

The 18th annual conference is being held on February 27th and 28th, 2013 at the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid North, 5151 San Francisco Road NE in Albuquerque New Mexico.  This year, the annual water conservation conference is an interdisciplinary collaborative effort of The Xeriscape Council of New Mexico and Arid Lands Low Impact Development (LID).  Hosted by both organizations, the conference will attract more than 250 land and water use professionals. The agenda will feature expert speakers, networking opportunities, a catered lunch, and more.

The Xeriscape Expo is Saturday March 2, 2013 9:00am-5:00pm and Sunday March 3, 2013 10:00am – 4:00pm at the Creative Arts Building at the NM State Fair Grounds, 300 San Pedro NE, Albuquerque.   The Xeriscape Expo is a free event hosted by the Xeriscape Council of New Mexico.  The Xeriscape EXPO offers a family-friendly opportunity for the community to attend free 60-minute seminars presented by xeriscape and low-impact design experts. Visit exhibitors, buy xeriscape-appropriate plants, get free advice from local master gardeners and much more.

Principles of Xeriscape
Seven basic principles to proper Xeriscape design:
  • Planning & Design
  • Soil Improvements
  • Appropriate Turf Areas
  • Low-Water Use Plants
  • Efficient Irrigation
  • Mulching
  • Proper Maintenance

With ongoing volunteer assistance of numerous Sandoval County Master Gardeners, the City Parks and Recreation City Listing and with support of numerous local businesses, the Water Conservation Office established the Water-Wise Demonstration Garden adjacent to the Veteran’s Memorial Park by the Esther Bone Memorial Library on Pinetree Road and Southern Blvd.

The City's Water-Wise Demonstration Garden utilizes:
  • Drip irrigation
  • Drought tolerant plants
  • Other low water-use practices

Enjoy your colorful Landscape!
