  3. Coming of Age in the Great Depression

    Loma - UNM history professor Dr. Richard Melzer will surprise you with a fresh and positive look at the Great Depression through his presentation of the Civilian Conservation Corps which helped 50,000 young men in New Mexico learn skills, trades, and obtain educations. This program is offered in conjunction with our New Deal Art in New Mexico exhibit.

    This program sponsored by the NM Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities and supported by the Great Books Foundation, is a series of one hour discussions moderated by a skilled veteran facilitator and focuses on readings from the Great Books Foundation’s anthology, Standing Down: From Warrior to Civilian. The anthology is the centerpiece for the discussions and features works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, essays, journalism, public documents, and memoirs.
